National visa - Specialty chef

If you would like to apply for a visa to work as a chief in Germany, please prepare the following documents:


1.

Two (2) fully completed and signed applications including declarations pursuant to Section 54 Residence Act(see https://videx-national.diplo.de

2.

Two (2) recent biometric passport photos (see specimen photos)

3.

Valid and personally signed passport with at least two completely empty pages

4.

Two (2) uncertified copies of the data page of your valid passport

5.

Completed form signed by your employer: Declaration of employment (original with two (2) copies)

6.

Description of the speciality restaurant in Germany with two (2) copies

7.

Menu of the speciality restaurant in Germany with two (2) copies

8.

Complete curriculum vitae in table form in German or English two (2) copies

9.

Proof of completion of foreign vocational training (duration: at least 2 years) at a recognised training institute (original and two (2) copies). Notification from the agency responsible for recognition in Germany is not necessary.

10.

Proof of at least two years of practical work as a chef in qualified places of work following vocational training or – if no training is possible in a vocational college in the country of origin – at least six years of work as a chef in qualified places of work (for example, employment references) in the country of origin including the full name and current telephone number of the employer as well as commercial register/business licence (original and two (2) copies)

11.

Proof of adequate health insurance cover
If as an employee you are subject to mandatory statutory health insurance, you must bear in mind that this insurance can only begin when you take up residence in Germany and enter into employment. If you enter Germany beforehand, private health insurance must be taken out for the period prior to employment beginning and prior to being eligible for statutory health insurance. In its terms and conditions, travel health insurance can exclude protection if a long-term or permanent stay is planned. So-called incoming travel insurance can also contain such exclusions.

12.

Applicant of a nationality other than Oman:

Proof of habitual abode by valid Omani residency card (original and two (2) copies

13.

Visa fee of 75 €. Must be paid in cash in OMR according to the current exchange rate.

14.

Documents not in the German or English language must be submitted with a certified German translation. A translation of the personal data page of the passport is, however, not required.

15.

Certificates, diplomas, etc. must be presented in the original with apostille/legalisation. Your original documents will be returned to you once your application has been processed.

16.

As a rule, the visa must be approved by the Federal Employment Agency and, where applicable, the competent foreigners authority in Germany. The visa can only be issued when this approval has been received.

17.

Processing time is as a rule approx. 4 weeks, but can take longer in individual cases.

18.

Flight reservations are not required to apply for a visa – please only book when you have received your visa.

19.

The Embassy reserves the right to request further documents.

20.

Missing documentation delays the procedure and can result in your application being rejected.


Please do not contact the Embassy to check the status of your application during the normal processing period. Such inquiries are extremely time-consuming for the visa section and can thus not be answered.

21.

General information:

Speciality chefs can be issued with a residence permit to work on a full-time basis in speciality restaurants. They must be nationals of the country whose cuisine the restaurant offers. If you can provide proof of qualified vocational training recognised in Germany, you can also apply for a residence permit for a skilled worker with vocational training.
