National visa - Visa for students (Section 16b Residence Act)
If you would like to apply for a study visa, please prepare the following documents:
1. | Two (2) fully completed and signed applications including declarations pursuant to Section 54 Residence Act (see https://videx-national.diplo.de) |
2. | Two (2) recent biometric passport photos (see specimen photos) |
3. | Valid passport (personally signed and with at least two (2) completely empty pages). (Applicants from Yemen please check if your passport is recognized at www.maskat.diplo.de/visa ) |
4. | Two (2) uncertified copies of the data page of your valid passport |
5. | Proof of admittance to the study course/preparatory college (original and two (2) copies), including information on the language of instruction |
6. | Where available: Certificates of other academic qualifications (original and two (2) copies) |
7. | Curriculum vitae two (2) copies |
8. | Letter of motivation two (2) copies |
9. | Where not confirmed by the university in the admittance notification: Proof of the language skills in the language of instruction for the study course or the preparatory course (without a preparatory language course as a rule at least B2 in the language of instruction) (original and two (2) copies) |
10. | Proof of adequate financial means |
11. | In the case of preparatory language course or internship: Acceptance for preparatory language course or internship |
12. | Applicant of a nationality other than Oman: Proof of habitual abode by valid Omani “resident card” (original and two (2) copies. Yemen nationals with residency in Yemen need to provide copy of Omani visa and two (2) copies). |
13 | At the request of the Embassy only, after general approval of the visa: Proof of adequate health insurance cover |
14. | Visa fee of 75 €. Must be paid in cash in OMR according to the current exchange rate. |
15. | Documents not in the German or English language must be submitted with a certified German translation |
16 | Certificates, diplomas, etc. must be presented in the original with apostille/legalization. Your original documents will be returned to you once your application has been processed. (For documents issued in Yemen: Please note that after the closure of the German Embassy in Sanaa, Yemeni documents can currently not be legalized by any German Embassy or Consulate). |
17. | As a rule, visa applications must be approved by the relevant foreigners authority in Germany. The visa can only be issued when this approval has been received. |
18. | Processing time is as a rule at least 4 weeks but can take longer in individual cases. |
19. | Flight reservations are not required to apply for a visa – please only book when you have received your visa. |
20. | The Embassy reserves the right to request further documents. |
21. | Missing documentation delays the procedure and can result in your application being rejected. Please do not contact the Embassy to check the status of your application during the normal processing period. Such inquiries are extremely time-consuming for the visa section and can thus not be answered. |
22. | General Information: Foreign students who have been accepted by a German university (where applicable with a preparatory language course) or a preparatory college (Studienkolleg) can apply for a visa to study in Germany. You are advised to secure your admittance or acceptance from the university as early as possible. During your studies, you can take up student jobs to help cover your expenses. Upon completing your studies, you will have the opportunity to look for a job. |
